A nine-room historic hotel in the centre of Bruges, named after the last Valois Duke of Burgundy.
Hotel Karel de Stoute is at Moerstraat 23, on a quiet street that starts at St James's Church. The Markt and the Belfry are five minutes away on foot. Guests put it the same way in many languages: close enough to walk everywhere, far enough not to hear it. Couples and solo travellers come here for good-value city breaks, usually for one or two nights.
You get a door code before you arrive and let yourself in from 15:00, whatever time your train gets in.
About the hotel
Our rooms
Five doubles, two twins and two triples. Every room has its own bathroom, a small fridge, a kettle with coffee and tea, a safe and a smart TV with Netflix. Some have the old wooden-beamed ceilings, some a bath as well as a shower.

Why Charles the Bold?
Karel de Stoute is the Dutch name for Charles the Bold. Bruges was one of the great cities of his Burgundian lands, and his story still runs through it.

Damme and Bruges
In July he married Margaret of York at Damme. Bruges celebrated for days, and the Procession of the Golden Tree still recalls it.

Nancy
He died in battle at Nancy in January, the last Valois Duke of Burgundy. His daughter, Mary of Burgundy, succeeded him.

The Church of Our Lady
His tomb is in the Church of Our Lady, a ten-minute walk from the hotel, beside the tomb of his daughter Mary.
Around the corner
The Markt and the Belfry are five minutes on foot, the Burg eight, the Church of Our Lady ten. The station is a 20-minute walk. Driving? Parking Biekorf, a public car park, is three minutes away.
